Camera Phones: If your main preference is camera performance, the phones to look at are usually the ones to come from the Sony Ericsson stables. K550i is a 2mp auto-focus enabled model which also has a LED flash and lens cover for protection. The camera performance is one of the best among the 2mp cameras. There is also the W610i from the same manufacturer which offers similar performance to that of K550i but lacks a lens cover. There are also the oldies K750i and W810i which incredibly offer better performance than these new phones but fall behind in other areas by lacking some vital new features.Among the 3mp phones, once again SE has it's K790i and then there is the Samsung D900i. The K790i is the pick of the lot and offers excellent camera performance for the price. It packs all the features of K550i and instead of a LED flash it includes the ultra-bright Xenon flash. D900i isn't too far behind in performance and manages to pack the camera in a slimmer, stylish slider formfactor.
Music: In this category we have two of Nokia's XpressMusic phones: 5300 and 5310 and five SE Walkman phones: W350i, W380i, W610i, W660i and W580i. There is also the old W810i but it is by all means out dated now. All these phones listed here offer respectable sound quality. Hardware wise 5310 is a notch above the others meaning it offers slightly better sound than the others. It is also the only phone here to offer a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone while others resort to using adapters.5310 is also the only one to provide stereo loudspeakers, however actual sound quality of these speakers leaves a lot to be desired. The W610i, W660i and W580i are supplied with neat in-ear headphones which offer great sound quality. Others come with standard earphones, which should be swapped with better quality ones after purchase. Format support and player interface is similarly good on all of these. All of them also pack in a FM radio, the SE ones having RDS built-in to them as well. Overall if I'd to pick one out of
these, I'd pick the SE W580i for it's good all round features and performance.Stylish phones: These are for those who prefer form over functionality. The phones that fall in this category are Nokia 6300, Nokia 6500 Classic and Nokia 7500 Prism. All of them are good looking phones with similar feature sets. If I have to pick one out of these it'd be 6500 Classic. This phone is very slim and looks great. It has a gorgeous display and 1gb internal memory
Smartphone: Choosing a smartphone from this budget is a bit difficult as there aren't any particularly good smartphones in this range. It would be recommended to extend your budget and go for the better ones. (You'll have to wait for the next post to know what they are, in case you don't know already) If you have to choose in this budget, the choice is limited to Nokia E50, N72 and N70 ME. Nokia E50 is the pick of the lot as it has a higher resolution display, better keypad, better web browser and a newer version of the Symbian S60 OS and generally faster performance. The only area that N72 and N70 ME trump E50 is in multimedia by having a higher resolution camera and better music quality.
Reviews:
1) It was hard to really check whats the best phone for just a budget of P10,000 pesos but Nokia phones are really a good choice, aside from they are user-friendly, there are also a lot of designs you can choose from.
2) I'd still choose an all-rounder cellphones which has all the right features and qualities and is priced appropriately. In my opinion the phone that falls in this category in the 5k-10k range is SE K790i. At 9k it has a wonderful camera, respectable sound quality and good all-round feature set. Overall it is the best buy in this range. First runner-up will be W580i.
3) Music cellphone from Ericson would still be the first one i'd recommend. Aside form having a lot of features. It is more affordable than any other phone. It would be one of the most stylish also.
